Dear parents and guardians,
This week students finished reading their historical fiction novels and began a second historical fiction book last week or this week. Students are reading to enrich their understanding of the historical era. Books could be finished over Spring Break or upon their return.
Students will also be researching the historical era from the historical fiction novel they read. They will do this in book groups and record citations and build a concept map. Once the concept maps are complete, students will divide the historical event into sections, and each book club member will develop a documentary on a particular part of the historical event. For example, the students who read about the Vietnam War might have one person research the cause of the war, and another might research the way the United States nation responded to the involvement of our military in the war. The research will occur in class, but students may need to research outside of class, too.
Students brought home their 8th-grade scheduling sheets Monday. Please ask for them to sign and return by March 22. Students compete against my other classes to see which class can bring in all of the scheduling sheets before the other class.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
